How many re-makes have there been starring Superman? And we got a whole line of trilogies starring Thor, Captain America, Iron Man. And God forbid, that we need another Wolverine movie. Oh, wait. We can see the latter, coming to a theater near you, May 2014!
Getting back on track, now I ask you, how many comic book to movie adaptations have ever starred a female hero? Can you list any? It's pretty hard...
Black Widow, also known as Natasha Romanoff, is probably most well-known through her appearance in the latest Marvel movies, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson.
If you didn’t read the comics, then you will be slightly left in the dark in terms of her character.
She has made her fair share of cameo appearances in movies like Iron Man, and Captain America, and actually stars as a main character in the Avengers, but all together, little of her back story is revealed. Hence, why having her own movie would be AWESOME!

Finally, after how long, producers are possibly considering making a movie that stars a female hero! Of course, this is only a rumor, and it's definitely not something we'll be seeing before 2016...
With that said, even if this movie were to happen, you have to wonder, who is the intended audience? Because this is one HUGE step for man, but is it simply for the man? Is this another excuse to sexualize a great character with skin tight clothes, close up booty shots, and a digitally enhanced or photoshopped waist (because she's not thin enough as is). Is this one big step for man, for the man, or will it be a promotion to empower young women and show how there can be female heroes as well?
I vote for the latter!

Well, should there be a movie hopefully that'll be just it, because as the Head of Marvel Studios (Kevin Feige) said:
“(Black) Widow’s part in that is very big... We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some developmental work with that. When we meet the Avengers at the top of ‘Age of Ultron’ it’s a very different landscape than we left them at the end of the first film. Partially, that’s because we love the rhythm that the comic books have developed — each of the characters appear in their runs, occasionally they get together for a big event or crossover series, they part again, and then they come back together again."
